Default 1997 Volvo 850 with 235k miles - repair or replace?

New to the forum, hello! Looking forward to receiving expert advice.

I have a 1997 850. Runs generally pretty smoothly but with cosmetic issues (dash board cracking, headliner coming down). AC broken, trusted mechanic found the problem to be the AC clutch and also the fan booster. Total cost of repair is $800.

Found a guy selling a 1998 S70 GLT sedan with 113k miles for $1750. If it checks out to be decent (my mechanic giving it an once over), should I replace or repair my existing?

The 98 will occasionally need the same repair to the compressor clutch, so I don't know. The 98's dash seems to hold up better, to me, but the plastic on the switches oozes bubble gum. Maybe they tried biodegradable plastics that year. I'd say it's a tossup, which by definition means it doesn't really matter which one you do. Mechanically they are 100% identical. Probably getting 100,000 fewer miles is worth $1000. Just don't expect much, I know you won't for $1000.

Thanks, I did purchase the S70. Of course, the day after the transaction, the check engine light came on. I did notice a few buttons to be sticky, but working. The newer Volvo seems to run so much better. Not sure if we just beat the other one to death or the miles have the impact.
