Owned a lot of cars and trucks in my life but never a Volvo!! Just purchased a 2001 S 60 2.4T with 107,000 miles on it. Have to admit I am getting a little nervous, when I asked a dealer how much a spare key would be and they said $250.00 I only received one at time of purchase so am tring to do some research to see if I have other options.

 

Welcome. Keys are expensive because they have a micro chip in them. Don't know where you might find one cheaper.

As to your S60's key, is it a generic key or is it an FOB? If the latter I cannot think of an option except to do some Google search, but if it's a generic key I believe a metal smith should be able to duplicate one.

The best way to keep the maintenance cost is to follow scheduled maintenance. Fuel filter, engine coolant, brake fluid & tranny fluid (+ many more items) are often neglected until too late.

Be sure to check out the recalls, and if not done yet make sure to take advantage of free fix at the dealer.
