2001 S60 T2.4 Auto - Footwell cover plate

Does anyone know what this is used for? Would love to know...
2001 S60 2.4T auto. Found in the passenger side footwell against centre console.

Just cleaned, hence the water marks.

Some trim options came with a grocery bag hook, that's what would go there instead. Little plastic, chrome covered hook that breaks off, at least mine did.
