Default 2006 Volvo S-80 Air Conditioning Recharge??

So I am majorly confused about this, nor am I sure where the LP port is at or if it can even be recharged via the LP port. On early model S-80's I read they have to be charged via the HP port only. Other on line videos show the LP port under the black plastic cover below the windshield. Needless to say I don't want to damage anything, but it's been hot here in Nashville lately and I want to get this car chilled back down again. There IS that port lower left in the picture... is that the correct port?

So first of all, what is the truth about the 2006 S80 Air conditioning? Can it be charged via the LP port? Or only by the HP port? And if the LP can be used where exactly is it? I just bought the car and weather was cooler then.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Mark

The low pressure port is the only practical way for most DIY to charge the AC. The low pressure port is under the power steering reservoir on the suction line.

On most of these that I recall, the high pressure port is on the front of the vehicle top by the radiator.

Yes, absolutely correct except for the location of the port... At first I also thought it was under the power steering tank, but slid that up,and out to find nothing. And it turns out the port you can see in my photo in the lower left IS the low pressure port. The HP port is up by the radiator/condenser not far from the LP, but just out of the picture. I added about a half a bottle and heard the compressor kick in. That put me about midway on my cheapie bottle gauge. The climate control and everything cool is working fine again.

Yes, I see that on your model the low pressure port was moved forward. That's a great idea since accessing them under the reservoir was a pain.

I learned something from your post!
