Advice needed - high mileage Volvos
Newbie here -
I have never owned a Volvo before, known people who have. I知 currently in the used car hunt, and thinking about the possibility of getting an older Volvo. I have a limited budget, so a high mileage version is what I知 looking at here. I know about the virtues of the 850/940/760 models, but they are hard to find at any price in my area ( NE Florida ). Whatever car I wind up with would not see much use - I知 only driving about 3-4K a year, nearly all local driving. What has got my attention amongst other choices are an 04 V40 1.9 turbo with 234k, and an S60 2.5 t AWD with @203k. Both are under 2,000, and the S60 appears to have a clean car fax. ( unsure of the wagon ). I believe I can get the price down a little further by trading an old SUV I currently have. My question is, should I consider one of the later S or V models ( 2000 - up ), even with high mileage, considering that I wouldn稚 be driving it all that much? Your input is appreciated.

having owned both an 850T (retired after 225K in part due to a bad job a shop did on the PCV...) and a Gen 1 S40 running clean at 120K miles), I'd say wyou will find the S60 a more comfortable ride. The only risk with the S60 is the IF the transmission/AWD has issues the cost to repair will be $$$. I wouldnt be afraid of 200K miles, particularly if its a southern car with good maintenance history. Either car I'd give a good look at 1) when the timing belt is due (10 Yr/120K guidance so the S40 should be due), the transmission fluid color/smell and the PCV system condition.
