Default Block colors

What are the block colors? I'm not talking about the paint color but some videos talk about some parts work on a white block but you have to modify it to work on the blue block. What does it mean and what motor and year do the colors pertain to?

dunno about blue block - white blocks refer to the double overhead cam modular engine design introduced in 90 or so, with the I5 being the most common. . Red blocks refer to the older single overhead cam I4 B21 engines common to the 240s/740s etc. Maybe blue blocks are marine engines, maybe they are Fords :-) BTW you can google for the modular engine and redblock wiki's
