Default Born again Volvan

Hey folks. A 1988 Gold 240 DL was my first car. Couldn't get in much trouble with 0-60 in 22 seconds, but I did spin it going too fast around a narrow turn, caught air while coming in hot to a parking lot, and unexpectedly surfed the hood of my buddy's '86 240 through the same mall parking lot (while eating a slice of pizza). Typical high school shenanigans, right? Volvo kept me safe and kept smiles on my face (until the A/C went out one August in Texas). Learned a lot about working on cars . Odometer stopped working at 225k and kept on going. Until my parents sold it to the mailman while I was home from college for Christmas!

I drove a '92 Corolla through college, a CJ-7 jeep for a bit, an '05 VW Jetta GLI once I got a job, then a sweet upgrade to an '06 Infiniti M45 Sport. Foolishly traded that for my current '11 Altima Coupe.

So that's my back story. I get antsy every couple of years, and decided recently to look for something new. Thought about something sporty like a Golf R or a 335i, but a calm discussion with the wife revealed these priorities:
- bigger than the coupe to accommodate a forthcoming child seat
- reasonably inexpensive
- "the safest car you can get"
- automatic transmission in case she's ever stuck driving it

So I was looking at sporty SUVs. But then serendipity struck: I was driving to dinner one night and spotted what appeared to be a 740 or 940 limo at a nearby dealership. It blew my brain ***** and instantly revived my love of the Swedish shoebox.

And that's the rest of the story. You'll find if i accumulate posts on here that they will tend to be unnecessarily long. I apologize for that.

So now I'm casually in the market for a quality 850R or V70R, or maybe even a clean late-model 240 for fun. To me, 'casually' means "I'd like to buy one this weekend, but I should probably wait a few months."

Anyway, Hi! I'm looking forward to browsing more of the forum and learning a lot from you swedefreaks. I can't wait to find a new brick and relive the glory days.
