California '72 1800E -- restore or sell?
I've had a 72 1800 since the late 1980s. I love the car. Almost everything original, from the radio to the '72 B20 engine to rebuilt transmission. About a year ago there was a bang in the engine and it just stopped running. Threw a rod?
I want to restore it, but cannot afford it right now. Never rebuilt an engine before but I'm a fast learner and good tinkerer.
But I don't want it to sit here and rust, either. It already has a few rust spots, dented trunk where double-parkers in San Francisco kept hitting it, damaged chrome trim, foggy windshield. I'm the third owner, now living in the Santa Cruz area.
Should I just sell it for parts or restoration? Any idea what it's worth? What it would cost to rebuild the engine?
Any feedback welcome.
