hi the people i have a volvo s40 2.0 2006 model, some uneducated thugs tried to steal my car. so they broke driver window and the electric steering lock, so i replaced it with a 2nd hand. so i had a key that corresponds with the ecu, the would turn on nicely, till i was told i need to program the electric steering lock(esl). so i went to an automotive locksmith and left the kit there to be programmed, when he came back with the kit, he assembled everything back only to find out the key doesnt work so he tried to bypass the wires from the igntion key barrel when doing that i think the harness got electrified. since than the car never turned even on when i turn the key. i went to a volvo dealer and one of the technicians told me mybe your ecu's have blown because the car was hot wired so i did buy the ecu kit and ignition, assembled it but still when i put the key in and turn nothing happens but i open doors the cluster turns on only at the digital screens not the whole cluster. so i your help anyone please

 

The ECM needs to be programmed. And I wouldn't use a used SCL. Buy a new ECM and a new SCL. Get them programmed to your original key.
