Fresh Brick from Ohio
Hey all,
I'm TheLost (A.K.A. Triston) and I'm pretty new to the Brick scene.
I actually just bought my first yesterday after having lusted after them for months now (and lurking here for a lot longer than my account has existed).
Anyways, a bit about myself.
I'm a Junior engineering major at Otterbein University and cars make up about 50% of how I spent my free time. If you ever want a conversation about old/new school JDM, engineering, physics, or anything in the like, I'm your guy.
Originally, I was planning on buying the 245 as a simple daily, but the drive home was just too charismatic and derpy to leave it as a daily, so while I will be daily-ing it, it will be getting the proper attention it deserves. Speaking of the car, it's a 1990 240 Wagon 5 speed. manual everything, but she's not too bad. The paint isn't great, it has a rust hole in a rocker, and the ODO stopped working at 252,xxx, but something still draws me to it.
Here she is:

First on my list of to do is to flush all the fluids, replace the busted PS hose, make sure the PS works, and then work on replacing both rockers since it looks like I can get weld in replacements for ~$30. Bedliner will be the cover of choice there. then, rear bumper upper trim since that somehow evacuated the car at some point in its life. Then, fix the stereo (since only the speaker in the driver's side door works?).
Only issue I'm facing is...
1) while driving, you know the sound a bicycle makes when you coast? The clicking? yeah the same clicking can be heard when I drive and have zero idea what it might be.
Once the car is running proper and looks as stock as I can get her, I'll be moving towards the suspension.
I'm thinking of ordering the coilovers (front and rear conversion)/ adjustable strut tower covers from Kaplhenke and getting a generic front end overhaul kit from FCP Euro, though I may end up just doing a Sachs/Billy setup with struts and some IPD or Eibach lowering springs. IPD sway bars are for sure. Then work out a solution for the brakes.
Lastly, I want to dig into the engine. Plan is to build a mild +T using junkyard parts. So far, I've acquired an intercooler from a 740, a Volvo TD04-16T turbo, Low compression pistons from a 740 and stronger rods from a 740 as well, and lastly, a turbo manifold off of a 700/900.
Still trying to figure the whole setup out. I have a Z31 Turbo 5SPD, and I've maintained/upgraded that, but not added a turbo to an NA before.
I figure I'll still need:
-Turbo injectors with ICU from 240 Turbo
-Turbo ECU
-Oil lines + taps
-Coolant lines for TD04
-Oil Cooler
-MAF setup
-Wideband setup???
-Boost controller (manual)
-full fluids flush, maybe a mild head rebuild with a 16V instead, I don't know.
-Turbo Downpipe
-Anything I'm missing?
Anyways, thanks for adding me to the community! I look forward to talking with everyone!
