Hello from KS
Hello, thought I'd drop by the forums and see if I could get the real scoop on the Volvo I'm looking at.
I live in northern Kansas away from any major cities in a small town but I have stumbled across a 1989 240 DL sedan. Its in pretty good shape and the seller insists its very reliable daily driver but he recently purchased another Volvo so this one is on the chopping block. Its a four cylinder model with 286,000 miles and the timing belt changed at 207,000. Good tires, exhaust, interior and all power everything in working condition.
He is asking $1,000 and says everything works but the A/C needs a retrofit kit that costs $77 at auto zone for 134a. Sound fishy to you? Me too....lol.
Otherwise a solid car. Should I ask this in a specific forum as well?
Anyway, I'm going to go view it Saturday AM and I'll report back if I make the purchase.
See ya...
Neal

Welcome Neal, it sounds fine to me. I sold my 85 240 years ago with 289K miles on it and it ran like a top. I actually wish I did not see it. The only reason I let it go was because my grandma gave me her car.
As for the AC, that is no surprise. Mind went too and needed the same thing done to it. Honestly, as long as you have the maintenance records and it was well maintained, you cannot go wrong.
Of coarse still try to get the price down.
