Default Hello from Melbourne, Australia

Hi there, Just purchased my first Volvo after a lifetime of Mopar.

It's a 1996 Volvo 850 R automatic in gun metal grey colour. 171,000kms, all original and in great shape.
Looking forward to doing my up and coming roadtrip of 4,500kms soon. I can see she'll be a great highway cruiser.

Regards,
Peter.

Welcome. I'm from Sydney, and I too just bought my very first Volvo last month. A 1999 V70 2.5 20V, with 161,000 kms on the clock.

I don't know much about it yet, but I've been busily searching the net. So hopefully, I'm going to be more active on it and on this forum soon.

I grew up in Carlton.

Bought the 850 R a week ago. 170,000K's
Drove it to Canberra yesterday as was blown away by the car's performance. Averaged 8.6L/100k's, got near on 800k's from 1 tank of 98 octane fuel, and it didnt miss a beat.

What about yourself?

wish my fuel economy was that good...just don't think the manual's have it in them...
my average is around 10.5-11.5 with a mixture of driving and pedal depression :P

Got any plans for your R?

Welcome to the forum both new 850 owners. 98 octane? That's almost jet fuel! Not available most places in the USA.

Yeah, our premium is 98 octane. I think our regular unleaded is 91.

I get 11.x around town too.

What colour is your R?
Re. plans; well I seen a few bits on Ebay I might bolt on - front strut brace (don't think I need it), K&N hi-flo intake filter, and there's this chip which is meant to kick it out to 310BHP. A bit weary, as I'd hate to screw it up. I'm already pretty happy with it. And other hi-po bolt on bits but no mods as such

eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d
Any body know anything about this mod? Good? Bad? Ugly?

Went up Mount Perisher into the snow yesterday, the thing was unstoppable!

Question: I got yellow KONI adjustables all round. Is that factory??

nope, koni's added after...nice score though, i've got the K&N filter and a TME cat back...
my R's black...with stuffed clear coat, but, don't wanna paint it yet as it's the daily driver, and if i paint it, when people open their doors into it etc...

and i wouldn't touch those cheap eBay chips...

Mines a dark grey. Paint still good. Would post pic if I knew how.

Really?! The KONI's are aftermarket? Awesome I thought the handling and ride was a bit over the top for a 16 year old passenger car.

TME cat back? Link to one?
My TRACS lite doesn't come on, don't know if its working or just the lite in the dash.

Have you been able to hook an iPod/MP3 player up to the car?

here's my 'build thread' sorta thing...

https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...-issues-63084/

i live quite happily without an ipod/mp3 player now that this is installed (no images, so online we go!)
alpine HDA-5460 16GB media centre with my alpine CDA-7998R

my factory headunit was playing up, so i changed it out...turned out to be a dodgy ground, but, money was spent and i like this unit alot more...

my tracs light comes on, but doesn't work...so i reckon there's an issue with the Tracs module itself, i may pull it out this week and resolder it...

even in stock form, im not overly disappointed with the handling, coming from a go-kart (basically...N13 pulsar with proper race coilovers and huge swaybars etc...)

eventually i'm planning on going Ohlins shocks and eibach springs, maybe koni FSD's...

as for the pictures, use a hosting service, then post the links... i use Google Plus, and then do it that way...works really well....

The 850 Tracks system is worthless at heavy throttle.
