Default Hello from Wichita

Just picked up a 2000 V40 over the weekend. The FAQ here was helpful in letting me know what I was getting into, and I'm sure the forum will be useful in the future, as well.

Picked it up for my son to drive, and I'm sure we'll have some bonding moments as we figure out this car, together.

Welcome. I also own a 2000 V40 which I picked up in March for my teenage son to drive. How about that!

I'm a long time shadetree mechanic and would be happy to help out with any issues you run into. So far I have:
1. Added a Magnefine filter to the power steering circuit.
2. Gapped the spark plugs.
3. Cleaned the MAF sensor (didn't need it - cleanest intake I've ever seen).
4. Flushed the transmission fluid and changed the engine oil and filter.
5. Fixed the typical leaking seal on the turbo oil drain pipe.
6. Replaced the timing belt system and water pump.
7. Replaced the coolant.
8. Installed Auto-Rx to treat a possible minor sludge problem.

My car has a slightly leaking fuel pressure regulator and a seized alternator clutch pulley - both to be replaced shortly.

Thanks. First order of business is the front sway bar bushings. I've done suspension work, before, but I've read this can be a bugger, despite how simple it may sound. I've found some discussion in here, which is helpful, but I can't visualize the procedure. Hope to get it on a lift this weekend.

This is my first Volvo, so not familiar with the details of the layout.

How many miles on your car? About 80,000 on mine. Mine has a suspension clunk front left and the steering pulls to the left a little. So far I've assumed this is the upper strut mount and/or strut bearing but haven't got into it yet.
