Hi
Hi, I bought my first Volvo a few months ago, its a 1989 245 with the B230F and a 5 speed M47. I love it, though she needs a lot ofTLC. I have fixed the floors and have gone through the fuel system. So far, verified all wiring is good, tps is working as specified, when i pulled off the TB noticed liquid fuel in the intake. So I changed out all 4 injectors, and eliminated the coldstart injector (by using a 940 fuel rail) Issue is I am still only getting 15mpg, its driving me crazy, even driving gently and conserving momentum (which would let me get 20mpg in my last station wagon, a manual converted BUICK ROADMASTER ESTATE). I also did a new intake gasket, there are no exhaust leaks, The 02 is new (installed by previous owner) and appears to be functioning normally. What am i missing here? The only codes i get are 113 and 213 but ever since i've changed the injectors the codes seem to stay away. I even added a ground to the engine to make sure the sensor grounds are good. Any advice will be appreciated, before i give up and throw a V8 into it.
what do the plugs look like after a bit of a drive? which FI system does the car have? you may be able to find an old service manual on eBay. As to radical change of plans a couple of things - You can probably find an old carb manifold and throw a Weber 32/36 carb on it. Had one on a 73 2002 with a manual choke and it ran great. Radical idea #2, grab the carb manifold and throw a 32/36 throttle body FI replacement system on it (google Webcon Retroject EFI). Finally, go the V8 replacement route - grab that Chevy small block and check out jagsthatrun.com for the adaptors/mounts etc :-) That's the one the Forum wants somebody to take on!
