Default Hi - finally got a Volvo: 2001 V70

Hi all - many thanks already for help with a couple of small items on a 2001 V70 wagon with 198000 kilometers on it that I just purchased from a neighbour.

Welcome. Take care of your tranny! I believe this tranny (AW 55-50) is the single biggest issue with this car. I don't mean to scare you, but I think most folks on this and other sites can vouch for me on this one issue. We LOVED our 2001 V70 until the original tranny finally gave up on us at 165K miles, which I hear is very good. Check this out now to help protect your good, working trans. Input from others would be appreciated...I have to go but will post again later.

Hi newbie here. My girlfriend just bought a 1999 V70 because I love Volvo wagons. However it is quite lemony. This time the problem seems to be in the A/C area. What with the cold coming soon to the Montreal area, it would be nice to have a working blower. Upon starting the car, the blower revs twice (on a/c mode) then the orange lights light up and nothing. Please tell me the news WON'T be that bad, a relatively easy fix?! Bryan

Default A/C quick fix

Since nobody had an answer for me, I dug around, then asked my mechanic! If your fan pulses on start-up, stops and the orange button lights come on, the first thing to look at is the possiblity of a ceasing blower motor. Simply(on a 1999) remove the glove box, the kickpanel and fan becomes visible. Remove blower, blow of the dust and work in some lube(light oil). Test. What happens is that the sensors read a greater draw of power because of the cease or stiffness and go into a protect mode. If solved, orange "OFF" lights stay green, and blower works normally.
