Howdy from TX!
It's been almost 10 since the last time I owned a Volvo (1990 760 Turbo STW), but here I go again
My daughter just turned 15 so she will start learning to drive soon and I don't want her to do that with my wife's Expedition or my TransAm, so I picked up a 95 850 Turbo STW last night. Has 167K miles, but runs and drives great. I got a 2-inch thick pile of receipts from the last 7 years with the car and it looks like a whole lot of work has been done: timing belt twice, new turbo, shocks/struts, AC (no receipt for evaporator, though...) etc. etc.
Outside is not perfect, but what 14 year old car is? It is definetely a very good 5 footer: no big dents, dings, scratches, badly faded paint etc. I haven't had time to dig deeper into the car yet, but will do that in the next few days.
Daughter is not too thrilled about it being a wagon, but since her own funds will not be sufficient for something else on her own, she will just have to get over it.
Looks to be a lot of good info around here, so I'll have some reading to do.

Welcome to the forum.
One thing for sure is that your daughter is in a very safe car. Other mfgs are catching up, yet Volvo is still ahead.
The following thread would give you some ideas as to what needs to be taken care of:
https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-850-16/new-volvo-850-owners-read-important-thread-also-applies-s-v70s-9266/
And come on over to the 850 forum for specific questions.
Your daughter would soon be happy to have a turbocharged 850.
