Exclamation Instrument Cluster wiring

My instrument cluster circuit board went out and i got a new one from the junkyard but from a different year. The only difference is the connector on the back of the circuit board is different. the original was green and the new cluster had a white connector. I cut the old one out so i could solder the wires back together to be compatible with the new connection and DIM. The color code remained the same so I figured I was doing everything correctly. However, the cluster won't turn on. My question is, can i solder the wires directly to the circuit board somewhere or is there anything i can do to make it work? Does it really have to be the same exact year, make, and model? I'm up **** creek fellas. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
