Default Just got a 240

I just bought a 1991 240 Sedan with a 2.3 sohc 4cyl, auto trans and 147k miles. I was looking for a winter car thinking either something awd or a big Volvo, test drove the car today and made an offer which the dealer accepted, $1200, down from his $1700 asking. It drives great, apart from needing an alignment and the exhaust not sealing perfectly to the manifold. Other than that, there are no knocks, vibrations, loose steering, or anything. It just works. There are only a couple rust spots, and the paint is decent, just the clear coat is getting nasty in some places. It's silver with a blue cloth interior. I bought it in Plainfield IN so maybe someone here checked it out before hand or maybe it was your car, it is from Illinois. Anyway, I'm very pleased with my purchase and I think it will be good here at Purdue in the winter. Anyway, what should I know about my car/it's configuration? I figure there are probably some quirks or things I should know as a new owner.

Dear al_ngl

I am new owner of a Volvo 240 GL 1992 model. Spring of this year.
What I experienced is getting use to Volvo’s lay out of controls and switches, from currently driving two GM vehicles a truck and full size car. I took the vehicle out where there was no traffic and learned what the vehicle was about. The sounds are different, but that I soon got use to that. What I did notice is a very agile vehicle steering is very precise. Braking is much improved over the other heavier vehicles. Parking is a breeze. From my studying of the Volvo was you best perform the maintenance as suggested. The vehicle was to be a drive away car but turned into a project car, which improved the vehicle to an unprecedented level of satisfaction for me. Even if you are not going to do your own maintenance, the purchase of the Bentley manual is really worth it. I hope you have the owner’s manual if not I have seen it on the web. If you got the service records book wonderful timing belts and things like that are good to know when due. The vehicle I bought was undercoated by Krown here in Ottawa and shows no rust and I had it done again this fall. Get to the rust as soon as you can do not let it get away on you. If taken care of it will last a very long time. I was in another vehicle today that has been taken car of it has gone 500,000 km; it is taking car of things that makes the vehicle last. Read the posts on this site and search the web for information on and you will appreciate the vehicle you have.

Thanks for the welcome guys. This car is somewhat of a departure for me since I normally buy coupes and this is the biggest heaviest car I've ever had by far. I hope to learn a ton about this car (hopefully the easy way), and contribute to the forum.
