Default new and have questions (Poll)

Hey all. Well the wife and I are looking to join the world of Volvo's. We have love the cars for years and my wife grew up in two wagons. It is time to get a used one. What would you all say is the best Volvo wagon from the years 88-95? that is kind of what we are looking for? Also around 2- 6 thousand dollars to spend.

Thanks much and I look forward to hearing what you all think,
Kyle

I would look at either a 240 wagon or a 960 wagon if you want rear wheel drive.
If you want front wheel drive look at a 850 wagon.

Thanks, We have a few hits on some low mile 850 wagons. Turbos with under 120 thousand miles. From everything I have read they usually last way over 200K miles. Two of them are model years 97 and 96 and while I would like a rear wheel drive, we are going to be moving back to New England and front wheel is better in the snow.

Anything I should look for when checking them out? Common problem areas other than motor mounts? I am my own mechanic (while not the best I know my way around a car). Should I compression test it? Pull plugs? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks all, I can't wait to join the Volvo family,
Kyle

IMO, there are several wagons that are an excellent choice. If you do not limit your options to '88-'95, you can get a 99-00 V70R.
However, for 1995 there are several choices:

1. Regular 1995 850 Wagon:

2. Personally, I would try to search for an 850 Turbo or preferrably, an 850 T-5R:

3. 850 GLT

The 850 is the most up-to-date (1995) and reliable of all Volvo wagons.
