Catalytic Convertor on fire
I have a 1996 V40.
The car engine began to stutter yesterday, like one cylinder was not firing.
At the same time an immense heat was coming off the Catalytic Convertor, so much so, that smoke begain to come into the cabin.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to way the Cat is burning so badly.
At cold start the engine works fine, after about 2 miles she begins to die and the heat builds up.

RE: Catalytic Convertor on fire
Yes you were right Bender. The coil unit firing cylinders 2&3 is faulty.
After the car warms up, it stopped firing on cyl 2.
Pumped raw fuel into the Cat and this caused the immense heat.
I am getting a new coil unit tomorrow and will probably have to get a new Cat as well.
Red XC, where is the flame shield located ?
