New and Looking for a 240
Hi! New member here. I really love the look of the old 240s and am thinking about getting one. I've been looking on Craigslist in my area and there are a few for sale. What should I look for and be aware of? Is it appropriate to ask the forum to look at a car I'm thinking of purchasing, just for reassurance? I've searched the forums as much as I could for a 240 buying guide, but couldn't find one, so, sorry of this post isn't appropriate. I'd really appreciate some help in finding a decent 240. Thanks!
As a licensed dealer who has been selling Volvos since 1999, those cars are woefully outdated. They are 25 years out of production and the last real production in the US was 1991. So, after that long you are looking at a vehicle that will probably need most everything (suspension, oil leaks, etc). I sold hundreds of those in the day but now they are just too old. They never had much power and never were good on fuel.
I would suggest that you consider a 2004+ Volvo, maybe an S60 or S80. I personally favor the 5-cylinder engine. Those are much better cars and more available.

True - can attest - I too sold many and many 2004 and later... but there is something about a 240. They are great cars. If you find one you like get it checked out and be prepared to maintain an older car. Considering how cheap they are to buy it is still mile for mile an inexpensive car. Albeit out dated for sure - prefer to see it as classic myself.
