Default Thinking about buying a 240.

This is not something that I am going to do anytime soon, however I would like to end up getting a 240. Maybe a 240DL. Anyone have any advice such as years to look for, or years to stay away from.
Thanks in advance for any responses,
Jay

I like the LH Jetronic fuel injection cars. I am not sure when they started. Mine is an 1988 but they went as far back as 1987 and maybe as far back as 1985? The later ones had check engines lights that although some consider a nuisance can help you diagnose when something goes wrong. I absolutely love my 240 dl. I have put 237,000 trouble free miles. I do maintain my car, though. I think you have picked one of the very best cars on the road. They are comfortable, safe, and if you know where to look, inexpensive to maintain. I bought a newer car and had nonstop problems (two engines, precat, coilpack, etc, etc,etc......I will never buy another mazda) I went back to my '88 and I have not regretted the decision one bit. They are getting older now so you will have to listen to your volvo and give it what it needs. If you do, I think it might last forever. Welcome to the club. Take your time looking at them until you find one in really good shape. There are deals and some real junkers too! After a little while you will know a deal when you see it.

Well, I'm not a 240 owner either (yet), but from my good firends who are devout Brick lovers, I have recieved the following advice. In 1986 they changed the sheet metal for the 240's from steel, to galvanized steel, so they are much less prone to rust. Naturally the closer you get to '93 the newer the car is going to be, and things like the rear head restraints were added in 1989, so in theory, the newer you buy, the better luck you'll have.

I just picked up my 87 240DL wagon. It was a california car, so theres almost 0 rust on it. It has about 170,000 miles on it, and it runs perfectly. Id highly recommend the later 80s 240 series, anything up to 1993.
