Default new member with s40 problem

Hello
Excited about being a new member. I have been a guest the past week and knew right away that I needed to join!

Since the Check Engine light has turned on a month ago on my 2000 s40 1.9T the car has lost a great amount of power. It feels like the Turbo never kicks in. No strange noises. It idles good. But absolutely no power! I probably need to take the car into the dealer but I would like to make an attempt at fixing myself. I purchased a generic obdii code reader but unable to gather any codes. Is there any special tips in retreiving them?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

No special tips for pulling codes. If the light is on there are codes stored.
Also check all the induction hoses and make sure they are connected and have no holes in them.

The engine will run but will be very very slow and lack tons of power.
It is a pain to get to but you can pull the induction hose off and inspect the turbo.
The car won't runn with the hose off so no warning about not inspecting it without it running.
You can reach your hand in there and try to spin it with the hose off.

hi, been away for awhile. i finally got the car inspected and the turbo is frozen. i have been searching for a replacement and only able to find one through the local dealerships. $800! i am able to get a 14T through ebay for $399 plus shipping from japan ($70). based on the forum, with ecu work the 14t would be a good choice. i am leaning towards this choice but wanted opinions. any would be appreciated!
