Default New member seeking advice

Hello group,

I have a newbie question and seeking answers, wisdom and insight.

For a little background, I recently purchased a 2012 C30 R Design with a 6 speed manual transmission. It was advertised as a “mechanic’s special” and would need a steering rack or power step up (or both)…it did not have power steering. That didn’t discourage me since I also mess around with old BMW’s.

My state requires an identification/odometer document to register and title. So while it was at my mechanics, I asked him to check the steering rack and power steering pump (since I didn’t have power steering). Well, he indicated that be because the body control modular (or BCM) was damaged it wasn’t performing as designed, (i.e. the power steering pump wasn’t getting its signal from the BCM). It also was sending codes such as “SRS Airbag service urgent”.

I guess my main question is have any of you experienced this?, and can anyone offer any advice or solutions? Any input would be deeply appreciated.

Thank you.-Bill

Volvo does not call any of it's modules "body control". That is a common term for some other makes of cars.

Volvo has a CEM. The central electronic module. And they can malfunction. You might want to seek out someone more familiar with Volvos - perhaps someone that uses the factory diagnostic software or equivalent. A company such as xemodex can fix those modules - but they will want any and every trouble code in that car (all the modules), best retrieved by reading the car with VIDA (the factory diagnostic software) to make sure all of the problems are solved.
