My wife and I just bought a 97 850 GLT, so I thought I'd stop in, join the boards, and say hi. Our 850 is red and has 112,000 miles on it. It's immaculate, at least, I think so for the mileage. I'll post some pictures tomorrow. And what would a newbie be, without a first question? The car is spotless, has had all it routine maintenance done, but after getting it home, it appears there may be a small oil leak. I've done some digging, and haven't found much. Where should I start looking?

This is my first venture into foreign autos.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

Start by looking under the top engine cover and make sure oil wasn't spilled during the oil change.
Also look for a leaking rear main seal.

Thanks. We've put 60 miles on it so far, and are certainly enjoying the ride. As for the "leak," I crawled under the car this morning to check things out. Wiped it all down, inspected the top of the motor and everything else I could see. It's pretty silly, but I think what was "leaking" was all the tire shine/armor all they sprayed on all the hoses, plastic, etc. in the engine bay for the detailing. They had so much crap sprayed on, my shop rags were black when i was done wiping it all off. Then, my wife and I did just enough driving to heat it up and make it run off. Of course, I'll know tomorrow for sure whether or not it's leaking, if there's a new puddle.

Thanks for the help though. We're looking forward to owning this car for a long time.

*edit* We were looking for an earring back in the car tonight after getting home. Same oil spot on the garage floor. It's definitely a leak of some kind. I see that a rear main will cost around $500-$600. I'll post up some pics in a bit, maybe you guys can help me diagnose.

Thanks for all the help!
