New from Nevada with a 740 GL
I'll just say 'Hi', and introduce myself. I bought my first (and only, so far) Volvo about four years ago. I've worked on the 740 GL sedan a bit over the years, and now with 208,000 miles on it the little car is due for some major work. I just completed replacing the power steering pump along with the high/low pressure hoses. Next is the upper/lower ball joints, front end bushings and then new shocks. Drop the oil pan and clean it. Service the tranny. Basically, work on bringing the little car back up to 'good as new' condition. I am always amazed at how well thought out and engineered this little car is---it's actually fun to work on!
Welcome to the forum, I hope you find it resourceful.
Yes Volvos are well-designed and good machines to work on. The only thing I do not like about Volvos isunreliable electrical & electronic systems.
Don't forget to do the timing belt, if so equipped and if not done within the last 70,000 miles/5 years.

Interesting comment about the electrical and electronic systems. I've had no real problems with either of these areas. The rear brake lights have that odd circuit board system that has had to be resoldered twice. The MAF went out once. That's it---so maybe I'm just lucky?!
