Hi. This is my third volvo I've owned. I started with a 940Turbo and ran it from 125k - 279k. I then bought a s60 and put on 126k. For some reason I decided I wanted a truck. Well, after a year I went out Monday and traded for a 04 S60R with 50k that was a lease return. Car is in great shape with a few minor problems. Shift ****(manual) twists and squeaks. Glove compartment rattles ( just like my last s60) and the cigarette jacks don't work. Just a couple of evening tasks. The only one I can't figure out is the shift ****???.

I'm excited to be in a volvo again.

The gear **** should not turn and squeak as it does require "considerable force" (Volvo's words) to remove it. However, if it has been off for some reason it may not have been replaced properly. There should be a support ring on the gear lever itself. This has a chamfered edge which must face upward and a groove which must face backwards. The gear **** is then pressed over the support ring until it locks in place. It is possible that this has not been done.
