Default New to the Site and Volvo's (1990 785)

Hello all,

I am new to the site and also Volvo's, I am a young automotive engineer and have owned a few different cars over the years

1) 1990 BMW 325i 4dr auto
2) 1991 BMW 535i 4dr Manual
3) 1993 Ford F-150 word truck Manual
4) 1993 Honda Accord Coupe manual
5) 1995 Chevy Caviler 4dr Auto (owned for a week)
6) 1996 Ford Windstar
7) 1991 Volvo 240 4dr auto
8) 1990 Volvo 785 auto (current)

I bout my first volvo maybe 5 months ago and loved it but decided I needed two things that it couldnt provide 1) space for the dogs and 2) better freeway crusing. I sold it and quickly found my current car at a local european dealer whos typically deals in higer end exotics.

They took this car in on trade and while it was sitting in their lot it got tagged in the front by someone backing into it.

It is a 1990 Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon with a professionally swapped 1995 mustang GT 5.0 and AOD trans using the converse engineering kit for the swap. Its starts, runs, and drives great, then interior is very clean as is most of the car aside from the front corner impact. It needs a bit of work but thats never something that scared me. I hope this I can gain alot of info on this site and just wanted to say "hey" I tried to upload images but the froum preferes hosted images not ones off the hard drive.

Ok so progress so far:

not much lol, I got new wipers (bosch icons) that are working our really nice
found out that I had nice IPD sways frong and back
removed and taped off and plasti-diped the frint grill (turned out nice)
reattached the mirror glass to the mirror with some epoxy
Ordered parts, header gaskets and bolts for the 302, turn light assemblies, driveshaft support bearing, liftgate int pannel repair kit and a few other odds and ends

Has anyone plasti-diped the bumpers? it seems back to black and products of the like are all dont last that long so I though I might just paint them with plasti-dip

Also where can I find some 740 turbo wheel center caps? mine were missing when I bought the car.

Thanks

Kyle

Hey Kyle, welcome to the site.

You may be able to find the center caps on eBay.

You can upload photos on the site but it doesn't like them to be to large. Make them 800x600 or smaller.

This is the "New Members" area for introducing yourself and your car.

I'd love to see photos !!

But if you're going to do a build, repair or restoration thread you should really start that in the "740" sub-topic or "Volvo Chat".

For the parts you need there is always the classifieds topic near the bottom of all the sub topics on the first page and you can also post what you need or want in the "Private wanted classifieds" ---> Private Wanted Classifieds - Volvo Forums - Volvo Enthusiasts Forum

There are threads on trim coloring, painting, dyeing, plasti dipping ..... and if you don't run across one in the 740 area try searching the 850 as I know we (Rspi and I) recently asked people to submit their experience with different products to renew trim.

You might also want to join turbobricks and Volvospeed. IMHO turbobricks is a little more into older stuff and I'd search their classifieds.

I love the 5.0 conversion. I have an 83 RX-7 with a chev 454 and TH350 so I know how some people love it and others think you spoiled their only daughter
