New Volvo dude. Can someone tell me more about my car?
I just bought a 1998 Volvo V70 GLT AWD 2.4 Turbo and I'm in love with it. I wanted to know of this wagon is a sleeper since I like fast cars. Does it have power or is it a snail? If anybody has more information relavent to My model V70 please share. Thank you
The 2.4 turbo makes decent power, about 200 HP. The factory performance is adequate and I do not recommend modifications as you will be throwing your money away and making some aftermarket manufacturer rich.
turbo engines are the easiest to add HP by increasing the boost. The boost is controlled by the ECU which is where there are after-market tuner programs available (~500 to 800 USD). Now with that said, adding boost comes with some downside. The turbo itself is an air pump and the GLT models use a smaller capacity than the the T5s and R models so it will have limitations. Adding boost increases heat so you may risk emissions/check engine lights and it will beg for higher octane fuel to help control pinging (beyond what the stock ECU can do). A mild "stage 1" will add about 30 HP, which will put your GLT in the range of a T5 - I'd say maybe .5 to 1 second improvement 0-60. Noticeable yes, sleeper... not quite.
