Default Newbie with a 93 850 GLT

Hello everyone, I am the proud new owner of a 93 850 GLT the car has 159,000 miles on it and is in overall good condition. There are a couple of things that need immediate attention like the front shock mount broke and it's riding only on the spring on the front right, it also is due for a new timing belt since the previous owners never changed it (at least the second owner possibly third). I'm looking forward to learning more about these cars, and meeting a lot of new people. I hope everyone is having a great Christmas and look forward to a great new year with a great new (used) car.

Josh

Welcome to the forum.

Get the timing belt changed ASAP as the recommendation for the '93 model year, 21mm belt,is every 50,000 miles or 60 months, whichever comes first. For the '94 model year, 23mm belt, it is 80,000 miles or 96 months. Very expensive if it breaks.

That's actually first on the list to do, as well as a water pump since I'll be there anyway...it's just a matter of trying to find parts at a decent price that I can get over here in a decent amount of time. The car is US Specs but I'm in Germany at the moment. Is there any kind of parts data base for these cars? I know BMW's have realoem.com is there anything like that for Volvo's?

This question comes up regularly and I don't know of a Volvo equivalent.

As you are in Europe I can recommend: http://www.partsgateway.co.uk/. They don't stock any parts for any make of car but are linked to several dealers who sellnew and used parts at reasonable prices and they will ship to Germany. List your requirements and the dealers will contact you with prices and delivery times. I have used them for Volvo, Jeep, Vauxhall, Renault and Mitsubishi parts and the service has always been first class.

I like the Wallace and Gromit avatar.

Thank you for you input, I'll make sure I check them out... as for the avatar it was one of the preset one's that you can select when you set up your account, I liked it and I'm glad I'm not the only one.
