My only previous Volvo was a 245 in the 80s that was a baby carrier. It rusted badly but I still enjoyed its flexibility.

Yesterday, I bought a 1997 V70 2.5T CD, 156,000 miles, loaded with every option. It has been serviced by Volvo specialists through its life, including a full annual service for each of the past 10 years.

The timing belt was replaced 6,000 miles back.

It needs a serpentine belt and a top engine mount. It is filthy inside. The garage where it was traded in (Mitsubishi) appear to have used it to transport dirty engine parts without protecting the carpet. It was keyed at some point, which is a shame. I hate vandals.

I will give it a full valet and bring the seats back.

What a bargain though. I filled the tank on the way home and realised I had just added 10% to the value of the car with £70 of fuel.

All warning bulbs work, no idiot lights on, and has a clean OBDII readout. This car gives me everything my other car, a DB7 Vantage Volante 6.0 V12, doesn't.

I think I just got myself a cracking shed, and look forward to learning from you all.
