Default Intro and first question

Hello everybody,
We just purchased this 95' 850 turbo. We are hardcore BMW heads and currently also own an old e30 M3 but we wanted a sedan also. So what pushed us to go over to Volvo? Well its obvious to you guys im sure but i dont think most people know how sneaky fast these things are! I compared a lot and nothing else could touch it. So here we are and no regrets we love the car and have a new interest in Volvos.

Ok so on with it , my first question. I have searched the posts for oil leaks and came across 144 or so i think but nothing of my problem. It is leaking noticeably and i must check it once a week or the morning after a long highway ride. You can see a trail of dripping oil into our parking space and a burnt smell if the rec button isnt on. Upon getting underneath the car it looks to be coming from front passenger side hose partly up top. A hose with a metal fitting at the end that goes into what appears to be an oil cooler (looks like a radiator) or somthing. My theory is it loses more oil on the highway becaue of the longer period of higher oil pressure and then smears the whole bottom of the engine and onto the exhaust. The hose is clearly been soaked in oil. I am new to Volvos (have been reading a bit) and am new to turbos. I will take a pic this week when i can get under it again and post it if its allowed for newbies.

Im hoping its an o-ring of some sort in that hose.

Any help would be great, thanks.
Lu

I would try to replace the turbo return line o-ring first and see if it stops it.
If you do it your self it will cost you like $10.00 to fix it.

YES!!! Thats what i was hoping for. So its the turbo return line? I didnt know exactly what it was called. Im guessing i should drain the oil first. Is there anything else i should look out for?

Most of the time it is that.No you don't need to drain the oil.
Replace that and clean it good and see if it still drips after that.
The turbo return line is a metal pipe that goes from the bottom of the turbo into the block.

Thanks for the turbo info and yes you are right. I love turbos! Im going to pick up that part and install it this week. There is soo much to get familiar with under that hood. I will feel better when i have an idea of what lines go to where. More stuff then on a NA car but im not complaining

Ok. i have finally found the time to take this oil leak on. The oil leak is coming from a ruber hose with a metal fitting on the end. It is connected underneath the upper radiator hose and is leaking from where the fiting and the robber part of the hose meet. This isnt the turbo return line is it? I enclosed a pic.

If it is on the front of the engine then that should be the power steering hose.

Default replaced the turbo return line o-ring and no more leak! Thanks Tech

Ok just a follow up. First up big thanks to Tech. Sorry i doubted you buddy.
I do have another small leak up front and it is the power steering hose (right again). Nothing to be alarmed of right now. The actuall big leak was that o-ring. So i replaced the turbo return line o-ring and no more leak. I noticed that the o-ring that was in there didnt even resemble the replacement. Dosent look like the best design that tube and o-ring setup but i hope it lasts a while. I had to remove a coolent hose next to the trubo for clearance. Probably wouldnt normally be a problem but someone had two extra clamps on the coolant line and this didnt allow the turbo return line to release. So i replaced that while i was at it because it looked suspect. Managed to by a pre-bent rubber hose for 8.00 for the coolant. So everybodys happy.
Thanks again buddy
