Default Newbie in Orlando

So after a 3 year search, I finally purchased my first Volvo. It's a 97 850 GLT in Silver with 99k on the Odometer. I have always liked the lines of the 850. I just sold my Accord after an extensive search in the Orlando area from Auto Auctions, to dealers. I have had the car a week and so far so good, with the exception of the Odometer gear going out Friday.... I'm not too familiar with the Service intervals on the Volvos, so I am looking foreward to learning a little about my new car.

I am over by Hunters Creek area, Ironically 4 blocks from Fields Volvo, which I won't be going too.....Seems expensive, though I guess they have to somehow pay for that fancy building. What about you tech?

I live about 5 miles west of disney.
I work at a Volvo specialist in Winter park a couple of miles from the Volvo store.

Cool..... Bet u are a popular man around here with the knowledge u must have. Damn, That's a long *** drive to work.. Seems like all the Volvo Garages are far from me. I saw there's Maitland Imports, and the place I got my car (The Car Bar) over off Orange but they are a little ways from me. Hopefully this car will be good to me. I am still trying to figure out the service intervals to make sure she it up to date on those.

Welcome. Make sure the timing belt has been changed. I would also do a tune up and replace all the fluids if you are not sure when they were last changed. Tech is worth searching for. Tech is DA MAN!

If it is a turbo I reccomend oil changes every 3k and non-turbo every 5k.

ok, Thanks man! Greatly appreciate the info... 2 questions for u, tech. How come every 5k on a Volvo... I am used to a Honda and Mitubishisand those are about every 3k. I am using castrol Semi synthetic on the Volvo and also adding a can of BG MOA additive, which was done today. So 5k,huh. Also, which shop do U work out of. I don't want to go to Fields and can only find one independent place in town that works on Volvos. Thanks!

Not sure why Volvo made it 5k. But on the newer cars that actually made it 7,500 miles between services.
But I have seen to many cars sludge up from it.

Yours should be a turbo correct?
I would do it every 3k if it is a turbo.

I will send you a PM with where I work.
