We are seniors, brand new to the forum. I’m a car geek and I’ve owned vehicles by BMW, Saab, Mercedes, Mazda, Chevrolet and Ford. But this will be our first Volvo! We just put down a deposit on a V 60 Cross-Country, Thunder Gray, for overseas delivery in June. We find this car to be stunningly beautiful, and heartily approve of Volvo’s appreciation for the station wagon. We have never been to Sweden and look forward to glorious Swedish roads. Any travel tips would be welcome. Looking forward to perusing the forum and being an active member.
Welcome to the forum and congrats on your Volvo! Make sure to show it to us when it arrives. You will find many great folks here with lots of info. Have fun surfing around!
After a spectacular 15 day, 1200 mile
vacation in Norway and Sweden (the drive in the fjords area is unforgettable), and a 72 day wait after dropping her off, our V60 CC was picked up by us at our dealership yesterday. We love this car!
Awesome! I did a European Delivery for a BMW 335i back in 2008. No better way to buy a new vehicle!
Just joined the Forum to learn about the XC-60 Recharge which I may order for Overseas Delivery next summer. Your timing was to order your car in January for a June delivery? I would be looking for a summer delivery as well.
Any advice for trip planning. I have a nephew I would like to see who lives in Trondheim, Norway and would love to drive along / through the fjords as well. Any particular roads / areas that are a most see?
You can’t go wrong driving to and through the fjords. The curving tunnels are particularly exciting, as they are narrow, dark, and just barely wide enough for vehicles in both directions. The twisties on the fjords are world-class, and you should expect snow even in June. Have the Volvo travel agency plan your trip, you won’t be disappointed.
Using the Volvo travel agency is a great idea as I can always use some help for routes and hotels. I planned a 17-day trip from Munich through Austria, Switzerland, France and Spain for the BMW pickup so I can do it but I had a lot of recommendations from Bimmerfest posters on where to stay, etc. My nephew will probably have a lot of suggestions.
These programs are great and Volvo vehicles are very attractive to me because they have an Overseas Delivery program. Sadly, BMW discontinued their program for U.S. customers.
Overseas delivery is indeed a fascinating way to get a new car and explore the country of its origin. You mentioned looking forward to glorious Swedish roads, and I can only imagine the scenery you took in. When it comes to car shipping, it's an entirely different process to what we're used to domestically. Companies like Ship Vehicles, for instance, offer various options for transporting a car by truck across states, and the logistics can be quite complex. So it must have been quite the journey for your Volvo from Sweden to the States! Since your post is a year old, I'm curious to know how your overseas adventure went and how you're liking the Volvo. Any travel tips you'd share for those considering the same?

We waited 45 days for our car to arrive, and it arrived without any dings or flaws of any kind, exactly on schedule. Our dealer in Hendersonville, North Carolina traveled to Greenville to obtain South Carolina tags for the car, and it was ready with a big red ribbon on it when we arrived for pick up. Everything was perfect and the vacation was the best we’ve ever had. No regrets at all. By the way, I was asked to, and accepted to, write an article describing our adventure in detail in Rolling magazine, and if you are a member of the VCOA, you can read it there.
Hello,
We did a Euro delivery of a C30 in 2013. We would like to do this again in 2023.
Could you forward me the contact information for Sweden? I can't seem to locate our old paperwork.
Thank you.
