Just bought a volvo v50 estate 1.6 diesel 59 reg ..... it gets a warning on the dash saying reduced engine performance it doesn't stay on constantly it comes on when it wants, goes of when I turn the engine off .... when it's on it will start accelerating by itself for example when am in 3rd it will start accelerating without my foot on the accelerator, I can control it by dipping the clutch....when the engine is at a stand still an not in gear it will idle at around 1500 rpm.... . Any ideas

 

start by having the car scanned for any stored OBD fault codes (they should be there even if the CEL light goes out).
