I have a 1989 740 Turbo. It was a gift from my Grandmother 8 years ago and I love this car. Ideally, I would like to keep her running till the end of the summer when I am able to purchase a new vehicle.
My problem: Last night, the tachometer started jumping and within seconds the vehicle died. I was able to crank her up again and finish the 4 mile journey with another ‘hick up’ on the way. The tachometer will jump and the vehicle feels like it is struggling and then dies.
I am not a car expert. Does this sound like the transmission is going out? Any advice on maintenance I can do to reach my goal and keep her running for a few more months? Any and all insight is greatly appreciated.
