Default V50 timing belt snapped/engine is oily still have car loan can this be fixed cheaply?

2010 Volvo V50 was having acceleration problems for some time that no one could diagnose for some reason. Too late was diagnosed with a stretched timing belt which finally snapped. The engine and alternator are covered in oil. Can this engine be salaged? I still have a loan on the car. Can I sell this car as a mechanics special? The body and interior are in excellent shape.

If the timing belt came off the valves will be bent. So the head must come off to replace the bent valves. Oil leaks. timing belt, 20 new valves - will cost at least $3000+. The pistons will have little dents but the engine should be ok.

Selling as is - a buyer will have to assume the transmission or engine might be bad - so the car has very little value unfixed.

How much do you think the car would be worth unfixed?

I have purchased many cars like yours from customers - knowing their history and having driven the cars before they needed a transmission or head gasket. I would pay $500 - $1000 as long as the interior and body was almost perfect. KBB says your car might be worth ~$5300 if perfect. So ~$5300 minus ~$4000 in repairs minus the not knowing what else is wrong factor equals ?

You may find someone to give way more than it's worth - but I've learned not to purchase those cars - they are not worth it.

Consider contacting your lender for support; many offer assistance tailored to unforeseen repair costs. Exploring options for a car loan for used cars lightens the financial burden. Seeking advice from local mechanics or automotive communities might offer valuable insights.
