Hi first post
had the steering rack replaced brand new. Over past 3 months when driving red light appears steering issue stop when safe . Each time had to be towed to garage latest time all electrical connections checked and fine . Re mapped to the Computor all fine again can not find any errors. So just waiting for it to go again . But all seems okay at the moment.Any thoughts

It sounds like your car’s warning light for the steering system is appearing intermittently, even though the steering rack is new and all electrical connections have been checked. Sometimes these warning lights can be triggered by temporary faults in the electronic power steering system, which may not leave a permanent error code.
A few things to consider:
If it happens again, having the car scanned immediately while the warning is active is crucial because the fault may not be stored once the car is turned off.
A few things to consider:
- Steering angle sensor or torque sensor: Even with a new rack, if the sensors that communicate with the ECU are slightly out of calibration or intermittently faulty, it can trigger the warning light. Sometimes these sensors need to be re-calibrated after a rack replacement.
- Intermittent wiring or ground issues: Even if the connections were checked, a loose wire or poor ground somewhere along the steering system can cause occasional faults that disappear before a scan tool can detect them.
- ECU software updates: Some cars need a software update for the steering ECU after a major component replacement. This can fix sporadic warning light issues.
- Battery or voltage issues: Low or fluctuating battery voltage can occasionally trigger electronic warnings. It’s worth checking the battery and alternator output.
If it happens again, having the car scanned immediately while the warning is active is crucial because the fault may not be stored once the car is turned off.
