Volvo 850r
hi guys I really need some help :/, I got a 96 Volvo 850r I recently bought it's tuned to 18 psi by a Volvo specialist it was running fine I did the oil change and spark plugs and recently I accelerated and it started to sputter and the acceleration cut off , you can hear the turbo spool and exhaust back fire almost as if your hitting your governor but the car has no power and the check engine light flashed and stayed on giving me the code p0234 can anyone help on what the problem might be it's my only car to work and won't make it past 50 without bogging out !
the P0234 is an overboost fault code. quite a few things can cause this - ranging from vacuum line problem, a stuck waste gate, a faulting boost sensor etc. Do you have a boost guage in the car? does it show anything more than say 3 PSI (ie 2 o'clock if you have the same console guage as my 850T) - not sure about your tune program but I think the factory program will cut boost to 3 PSI or less if there's a fault measured. I'd also inspect the boost tubing from the turbo to the intercooler to the throttle body to make sure you didn't blow a hole or pop off the tubing.
