Default v70 p2 low charging rate

P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; } I recently bought 2007 p2 v70 petrol 2.4 auto. The battery kept going flat which was quickly rectified with a new alternator and battery. Although it solved the problem, the charging rate was lower than expected. Usually 13.2v with occasional jump to 13.4. Another problem the car had was that it did not display the ambient air temp on the dash. Just 3 dashes. Further investigation found that the ambient air temp sensor was missing from the right hand rear view mirror but there was one in the left mirror so the garage swapped it over. My dash now displayed the ambient air temp and the charging rate increased by 1 volt to 14.2 – 14.6. Volvo men think because the sensor was missing, the volvo's brain thought it was -40 degrees centigrade outside so it limited the output from my new “smart” alternator accordingly. If it was really smart it might have noticed there was no sensor!
