I'm not a volvo owner, yet, but am looking online for a used one. I'm unfamilar with the Volvo line, I see there's 960's and 850's and 240's which all look alike (to me), same basic model years, are these differences in model numbers have to do with the engine size? trim package etc?
I prefer to buy a rear wheel drive with a straight six cylinder wagon, what year was rear wheel drive discontinued?
Does Volvo still make a six cylinder or have they changed to five cylinders?

These look alike to you? I mean yeah they are all boxe shaped, but that is it.

 

The 960 was the last RWD Volvo.

The s80's are a six cylinder engine.

Yes, it's the 240 that's the boxy one, my bad as they say, the 960, 850 and there's another, an the V70 wagon that I prefer (body style that is).

 

I drive a 1990 240 wagon, the color I call pewter...
I love this car. I had a 1983 wagon but an elderly lady driving a new VW beetle totalled it.

OK, so I saw Katrina's topic, I loved all the pics posted in response, demonstrating the differences.
I'm wondering if there's a newer model/series (late 90's to maybe early 00's) that compares with the 240 series in terms of reliability and steadfastness.

Looks aren't as important. Of course I'd love to splurge and get a turbo but I mostly am looking for inexpensive maintenance/parts and reliability.

I'm not the sort of officianado that cares about looks and nifty features. Just basics.
