Default Volvo Newb

Well Here goes.

I am VERY new to Volvo. Although I've been interested in them for quite a few years, I've never done more then an oil change or change a lightbulb. Expect me to be confused often.

Volvo has always been just outside my grasp. I've always wanted a nice clean ride (So many on this website) but I lack the funds to achive this. I dislike new car's. They're all shaped like electric razor, I usually stick to 90's domestics.

While surfing for my next project, I found a 1985 Volvo 240. My first instinct told me, Rust bucket, skip it. My dad (Whom was involved with alot of volvo's in his youth) told me to re-consider. I did, and I got this for 400 bucks

Now before you start laughing at me

a) Despite the dated paintjob there is no rust on the entire top half of the car, I mean, not a single spot.
b) There is no rust on the bottom of the car, in the middle (save for a hole in the passenger seat). The wheel wheels, and corners of the car have small holes, I've been told to expect, however not as bad as "they should be"
c) The Motor has 307,356km on it. Although it looks a little dirty, it goes like stink. No chugging, odd noises or hesitiation. It drives very nice.

The interior, excites me alot.

Some dirty *** seat stains, and a nasty carpet is about the only problem. Although I can clean most, and reupholster the rest.

This is an exciting project for me. Seeing as I paid a whopping 400 dollars for the car. At least 1000 will get me a nice clean ride, worthy of some respect, I think.

I look forward to looking around the site, checking out some rides.

Cya later

Cool, nothing wrong with a project car. Seems like it has a lot of potential for the investment.

The first Volvo I ever drove was an 850 Turbo when I was 17. Damn thing scared me senseless. Combined with the unique power and design, I became fascinated.

I started apprenticing as a mechanic when I was 18. I've worked on probably, hundreds of different cars, even some obscure ones, But since then, and now (I'm 23) not including my own, I've worked on less then 3 Volvo's. Not many people in Canada have older Volvo's (lot's of rust buckets) and the few that have newer, Keep it in the dealer's shop.

Shame, I'd love to crack open an XC90 and see that Yamaha derived motor.

Welcome to the Forum. I had an 85 Volvo 240 and loved it. You will love it too.
