Hi All
I had my car serviced all the usual stuff..
I was told the fuel filter housing was in need of a change as thr threads to screw it in were looking a bit thread bare from my mechanic...
Now i rang my local volvo dealer parts dept..
Asked for the fuel filter housing The price for the housing is £94 inc vat again no problem with that (Part no 31303261) for my 2004 XC90 D5 no harm in that you say..
Then i am told there is a software update for this part (bit strange i thought)
So i asked to go through to the service dept and get all the details.
I am then told that volvo have updated this part to stop possible fuel leaks
after a lot of digging with volvo i find you cant buy the one for my car anymore i have to buy this new one so they have changed a part for a car that is no more than 8 years old and want to charge me wait for this £1,100 to supply and fit this item
so your paying for the part and the update and the labour which really you dont need because you should still be offered the old part and volvo dealer says its to stop possible fuel leaks well is that another term for a recall or dam right stealing even dick turpin wore a mask..
So what i am in the process of doing is to find out why they changed a part. And then you have to have new fuel pipes fitted this is were the cost comes in as they have to drop your fuel tank and move your propshaft etc
i would like to start a fight back on these costs with people who have the earlier cars i think its dam unfair and there pricing you out of selling your volvo or even thinking of buying one....
So this means if volvo change the wheel size on the new xc90 to 20inch does that mean you need to have a software update and change your wheels on your earlier car
COME ON VOLVO SORT THIS OUT

Criteria : (VOLVO CAR XC90) for the date range 01/Mar/2004 to 01/Sep/2012
Information : Click on the recalls number to expand the detail and hover over the concern for a quick insight into the defect
Please note that certain recalls have the same reference number, but relate to different models/variants of the same manufacturer/vehicle.

Please note number 14 this is a recall on the 2010 cars now my point is that volvo say its not a recall on my 2004 car..
So therefore i should be able to pay the £96 for my fuel filter housing...
But no volvo are not interested in my point that the recall is not for my car, But i still have to pay £1100 to them for the supply and fitting and software update on my 2004 xc90 when my car does not need all this i have tried there customer service and motor codes and consumer advice....
So any xc90 owner who may need to have the fuel filter housing replaced due to general wear and tear expect to pay a lot of money..
Or do as volvo customer service say and get a salvage one which seems to defeat the object some what..
Or band together to put the pressure on volvo to sort this out as they cant say its not a recall on some xc90's and then tell you to pay £1100 for the updated one which your car does not need

Hi All
Ive had the MOST security patched (turned off) £56 odd from volvo dealer this is so i can either replace the existing hi fi with out errors....
But i am fitting a GROM UNIT (lite cost £187 inc postage)..
This will replace my 6 disc auto changer in car (which stays were it is)
The grom unit uses the plug from my cd unit and then its up and running..
and i can use a flash stick for my music or (iphone ipod using headphone socket) if anyone is interested i can take pictures of install and also post company who do these units they do another one but at £320 odd i think the lite is ok for what i need...
I will try to video the install aswell...

This install took me 25 minutes from start as you can see the grom unit is attatched using no more nails sticky pads or similer to the underside of the cd changer and then you can route the usb lead or headphone jack lead anywere you require

As you can see no errors i did not remove the battery terminal this is because i had the MOST security patch done from my local volvo dealer rybrook chester at the cost of £56 odd and with the £187 paid for the grom which allows me to play my music from a flash stick (Im using a 32gb) at a cost of near £243 its cheaper than replacing the full system and paying a lot of money for your cd changer to be replaced or repaired....
and the sound is bang on.......
