XC90 Headlamp assembly issue
Hey Folks
New to this forum but long time Volvo XC90 owner. I have a 2013 XC90 and the headlight plastic covers/lens have some pitting and cracks. I tried one of the headlight repair methods where you sand and polish the lens, but the cracks are not surface cracks and go all the way through. And the pitting is too deep to sand and polish out. I did one headlight and it looks better. But the results are not worth the effort. The other thing I realized is the pitting is exactly in the same spot the washer fluid hits the lens. I've been doing some research online and pricing various headlamp assemblies. I mostly search the genuine volvo parts sites online and can find parts for 35-40% discount. These assemblies still cost $415 and for each assembly. I found a site eEuroparts.com that carried the genuine volvo part for $448 and a Valeo OEM part for $267. I decided to look on my headlight, which is the original part from when I purchased the car and its a Valeo assembly.
So just wondering two things:
1) If the Valeo part is the same manufacture as the more expensive Genuine volvo assembly and is it the same quality?
2) And is there a way to turn off the washer so it doesn't spray on the lens? I'm convinced the spray on the lens in freezing weather is what's causing the pitting and cracking. They are not the xenon lamps. (I read somewhere about removing a fuse in the fuse box)
Actaully 3 things:
3) Does anyone have the same issue with the pitting and cracking and what if anything did they determine was the cause?
