TD04HL Family Turbo Pros & Cons
After swapping my stock 15g for a 16t, i've been asked "Vmax was the 16t a noticable difference?" at least a half dozen times.
So i've decided to post my findings for all prospective racers to see and judge.
I did not need to get freer flowing injectors, but I did get a 2.5" catback so the 16t would not suffer a cracked turbine housing (hotside) like the 15g did. I do have an ARD green tune. Stock intake. Stock DP.
The 15g felt more "brutal" b/w 30-50mph in 2nd gear. The 16t is equally as fast, if not faster flat out from a stop.
It does not seem to try as hard to accelerate like the 15g does. The 15g feels like it runs out of steam after 4.5k rpm whereas the 16t feels steady throughout the rev range.
In other words, the 16t does not fall on its face after 4.5k, but does not give you a "kick" when you roll on the throttle at 30mph like the 15g does.
16t is faster after 100mph. And according to my timing skills comparing all my acceleration vids, faster to 60.
Links below if interested:
16T 40-110mph
16T 0-60mph
15G 0-60
15G 40-110mph
It would be great if any and all who have had the 16t and upgraded to an 18t to chime in and give a detailed commentary on the pros and cons of such an upgrade.
THEN those with an 18t who upped to a 19t, give a detailed commentary on the pros and cons of the upgrade.
THEN the 19t guys please give a detailed commentary on the pros and cons of such an upgrade.
THEN the 20g guys, and so on until we've reached the BIGGEST turbo that can fit the 2.3 T5 motor.
And please, list any and all modifications needed to support the upgraded turboes.
