Well it looks like you want more engine power.
And you said your budget is about 1k right? If so...
Why not wait on the engine stuff, and do suspension.
You could buy a strut brace, http://www.ipdusa.com http://www.eurosporttuning.com I also think the dealership has a strut brace, but don't know if they have one for your car. This shouldn't void it.
You could also lower this car as well. I don't think it would void anything.
Also you can do sway bars. http://www.ipdusa.com They shouldn't even notice the change really to them.
If you do have to do engine mods. Why not a intake kit. http://www.eurosporttuning.com Or you can make your own for less, way less money.
Also you could look into a MBC (Manual Boost Controller) I don't know if they work on the newer Volvo's or not. And if they do just turn then boost down to normal when you take it in for repairs or whatever. Or turn it down, and remove it from them car.
You could try an ECU upgrade. RICA is the best but is way exspensive. IPD is also one of the best but way expsensive. You could try SpeedTuning USA they are the cheapest, but most people are happy with them. I know I am! Upsolute might have something for you as well.
