Default S60R - To warranty or not to warranty?

Hello all! I am new here.

I own a wonderful 2005 s60R - Shirley. My extended warranty runs out in a few days and my husband is not very excited about spending $2K on another 2 year warranty.

I bought it in 2007 and it had 6500 miles on it. It had been in a "fender bender" which I now know may have been more serious than that because the windshield is not original.

That said, I have had no real problems - the windshield wiper motor is about to be replaced and last year I had to have the radiator replaced - a fluke thing, they said. It would have been very expensive without the warranty.

Someone backed into my driver's side door 2 years ago and that was fixed brilliantly except that there was an electrical issue that we chased around for months. That resulted in a trial and error adventure that included replacing the CEM (wasn't the problem but I got a new one for free). It ended up being a short in the door and was finally fixed.

All of the maintenance has been done religiously. It is an automatic (sigh, I know....) and I baby it. I now have 67,500 miles on the car and so far, so good.

Can anybody give me some idea of what the next 2 years will look like maintenance-wise? Wearables are not covered under warranty anyway so besides those things, what would be covered under warranty that might be coming up for this car in the next 2 years that would justify spending the $.

We are already creating a fund for the upkeep of this car.

I have until the end of the week to decide on this and would really appreciate the feedback. I love this car and want to keep her running.

Cheers and thanks in advance for the help.
Nancy

PS - this is Volvo No. 3 for me. I had a 1989 240DL (The Shiny Gray Dream). What a great car. Then a 1998 850 (Lucky Charm) great traveler but not zippy enough.

I have no idea about the reliability of S60's
But just by chance I passed a trans shop close to work and they had two of them on the lifts.
I guess that would be a 2k repair..the thing is, when?.

Default Thanks

Thanks Fcp.

I believe we are going to forego the warranty. After much consideration it is kind of like betting $2K that my car will need warranty work in excess of $2K in the next 2 years. I'll pass on that bet.

It's an R car and I certainly have my occasional fun - usually on the interstate...sometimes in the hills. I am an expert at getting out of tickets, so that helps...But I don't rag the car by any stretch of the imagination. We'll be fine.

Glad to know the forum is here and glad to be in contact with other enthusiasts. Volvos are awesome cars. I miss my other 2 but didn't want to be a hoarder...

:-)

Good call, it really is not worth it when you think about it.

On a side note, I would love to know how you get out of tickets. I think it does help that you are a woman. Men just never win in that department.

Hellooooo All.

FCP I will definitely get back to you about the tickets. That said, it's less about being a woman and more about god salesmanship and the ability to distract them into conversation. Anybody can do that!
