Your car will need to have a "download" for the car to accept the signal from any new remote. That download has to be done using VIDA. Volvo's software. Anyone with a VIDA subscription can do the download. You, a shop or a Volvo dealer. Typically only the dealer or a large independent Volvo specialist have the capability.

You can purchase an cheaper ebay/aftermarket/amazon remote - that might work if you can find a garage or dealer that will try to make it work with your car. I have read/heard that most dealers will not try to work with aftermarket remotes. There is also an emergency key inside the remote that is the key ring. Did you want that included and to work?

There is no cheap way for this. Order the emergency key from Volvo using your VIN. A couple of days later a precut key will arrive. If it works, great, if not Volvo will try again at no extra cost. Compare that to buying a ebay emergency key, finding someone who can copy your existing key and then it "sorta" works if you wiggle it!

After the key arrives take the car in and have your local dealer "program" your car to accept the new Volvo remote. Prices can vary from dealer to dealer - so I would call around. None will be as inexpensive as you wish.

Thank you very much for reply. Your information as expected, RE: costs. AAA came and popped lock, so do have fob back. He suggested to have the "valet" key, part of the fob, copied, keep in wallet, thus no further probs., Will contact dealer for such.
