Has anyone here tried any of the OBD chipping solutions available ?
The one I am going to try is the Volo VP12 . But I am interested
In the Jet and the Venom solutions as well . As far as I can see
These all do the same type of thing . A remap solution .
This seems to me to be a safer and more fuel efficient type of
Mod/Hack . I really don't think that a resister on the MAF is the way
To go . But if you have had good results with on of those resister pak
Types please let me know that as well because that is certainly cheaper .

I have only used and only trust the elevate and IPD one. Never heard of Jet or Venom making a tuning solution for volvo.

 

My experience with chipping is on older rwd turbo cars and it's a great thing. Resistor mod kits on the AMM really just are not worth it. It's extremely old school tech...I did it on my 84 760T! Basically tricks the ecu into thinking less air is flowing through the meter. Modern cars pretty much learn around it. Chips aren't bad...but I'd investigate some forums (perhaps this one?) such as volvospeed.com where there are a decent amount of folks doing mods of that nature. Be advised, VS is chock full of posers who are, shall we say, less than knowledgeable...I recommend lurking until you figure out who actually knows their stuff and who just vomits stuff they've been told...

 

Swift, you are correct about the RWD Volvos. The Fred's chip works great and is a must have if you have a heavily modded 240/740/940. But when it comes to the FWD volvos, they are not chipable. They don't even have a place to put the chip in. With the ME ECUs, which is what the white blocks use, you can only flash the ECU.

Resistors are a waste of time and DO NOT WORK. Save your money for the real deal. IPD USA, RICA, BSR PPC, Upsolute, SpeedTuningUSA,InMotion. These are companies you want to look into with IPD USA, RICA & BSR PPC being the best of the crop. Do it right the first time around.
