how about this winter weather in the south

Well, I'm down to two running Volvos temporarily, the 73 144 and the 90 740 w/ a V8. Both have done quite well here in Dallas. The 144 has no choke so it'shard to start in the mornings, but does super once it gets warmed up. The V8 is fuel injected and of course starts right up. It has a bit more than 400hp so I prefer to not drive it in rain, let alone ice and snow. Regardless, it's seen its share the last week. As long as I'm quite gentle with the clutch I'm fine...

yeah I have 256,600 miles on my 940gl, with a transmission thats going bad so until i get a new water and fuel pump installed in the 262c i have to keep the 940gl alive and at least moving me to point A to point B. but since TN has a tun of snow right now thats not going to happen any times soon, even though the car is in Memphis.

I use my 960 as a dd. I make it a point to go fishing EVERY TIME IT SNOWS. So yesterday, on my way home from catching some trout, I was on the phone and didn't slow down enough when making a down hill left turn and went off the road (on to dirt), just missed a street sign and short utility post (may have blew snow off the post). I kept the wheels turning, car moving and was able to get it back on the road.
Other than that it did real well up to about 35 mph. Didn't seem scary at all. Have to keep in mind that the Volvo rwd cars are very balanced and are designed to drive in Sweeded. Also, I'm from Pittsburgh where it snows 5 months out of the year and has lots of hills. Come to think of it, I didn't even think to select the W button.

LOL! Great story! I saw lots of folks talking on cell phones while driving on the ice here in Dallas. It's really scary when you realize the last time they drove on ice they were operating a burro! So...I just stayed back and watched the local Icecapades! You're right...stock rwd Volvos are absolutely super in snow and ice. Start lowering the suspension, modding the motor and before you know it, your chin spoiler is a snow plow! Last winter, my 245 was still on the road. It snowed last February and I drove to work with the headlights and fog lights on. The snow built up on the chin spoiler and broke the lenses on both fog lights!

Went out today for a 10 mile trip. Roads are very clear in my neighborhood but once I passed our local main grocery store the conditions changed dramatically. Before the store, 90% of the roads were clear, after the store about 50% of them you can see black top. Then 15% of the black top was covered in black ice. My last 5 miles of my trip was on I-40, most of which was clear, about 90% view of blacktop, 20% of which was covered with black ice. Not a good situation. I tried to stay in the middle of two packs and stayed on the road. I did see a few people off the road still in their cars.
People, when driving in snow (hopefully not ice) keep distance between you can the cars around you. Do not pass anyone unless you have to. Do NOT try to pick up speed or slow down when you hit a patch of snow or ice when crusing 30+ mph. Lastly, if you see a green 960, please stay away!!!
